Oh yes, Firefox did. It was revealed this week by StatCounter ( http://www.statcounter.com ) that Firefox has passed IE7 as the most popular browser. We have been watching the browser trends for a long time, and while this had been predicted many times, this time the numbers are there to support it.
Firefox 3.5 is the single most popular web browser!
To be fair, if you combine all versions of explorer, you will see that IE still retains around 54% of the web traffic across IE6, IE7 and IE8, but any one of those is less than the market share Firefox 3.5 currently has.

Of course this may be short lived, it may be a blip on the radar as Microsoft is pushing computers and upgrades for Windows 7 (an OS I have thoroughly enjoyed using for the past couple months) which will also move users to IE8, but for now, and in this instant, many of us can enjoy our moment of ‘I told you so’. Congratulations Firefox and the OSS community, you deserve this day and thank you for an amazing browser that I would not want to be without. |
