 Earlier this month, I had an opportunity to travel internationally and at dinner one night, we had fun with the “english” version of the menu. Clearly, this menu was translated using Google Translation. Through the menu, some of the course choices were: Ham Steak of Deer, GamePepper, Hare of Rabbit. Our favorite translation was Hotchpotch. We asked our local friends to explain how this Hotchpotch is prepared and it was described as smashed potatoes with raw vegetables. They insisted this Hotchpotch was an American term. It wasn’t easy to explain that we generally do not refer to any food preparations with this term. Well, when I returned home, I just had to google HODGEPODGE and there is was!
