Ralph Buckley, MD

Ralph Buckley, MD, is a co-founder of CardioConcepts. He currently practices cardiology with an interest in noninvasive cardiology, including care of patients with CAD, vascular heart disease, and arrhythmias. He resides in Fairhope, Alabama. He graduated from Brown University, magna cum laude, and completed his medical training and residency at the University of Virginia where he became chief resident and, subsequently, a fellow in the cardiovascular division. Dr. Buckley began programming computers in the 1970s. When he and Dr. Gimple became interested in multimedia education, he focused on designing the most robust and flexible database for digital medical content possible. His expertise in medicine was instrumental in the plan and design of the database. Dr. Buckley was also the key programmer for CardioConcepts' proprietary IDEA technology. He developed the Maestro authoring tool as a means to facilitate authoring from remote locations.

Lawrence Gimple, MD

Lawrence Gimple, MD, is a co-founder of CardioConcepts. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He serves as the Director of Inpatient Cardiology and Associate Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories for the University of Virginia Health System. Dr. Gimple graduated in 1983 from Harvard Medical School. He completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Gimple has a clinical practice in Interventional Cardiology, basic research interests in atherosclerosis and restenosis after angioplasty, clinical research interests in acute coronary syndromes and outcomes after coronary interventions, and educational interests in the use of emerging technologies for teaching about cardiovascular disease and health.

Debra McMahon, PhD

Debra McMahon, PhD, received her degree in Pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her postdoctoral training in Thrombosis and Hemostasis at UNC Chapel Hill. Dr. McMahon spent several years focusing on medical writing and editing for pharmaceutical sales training programs. During that time, she developed an interest in instructional design as it applies to web-based instruction and had the opportunity to train with instructional design professionals with over 25 years of experience in medical education. She has been the President and CEO at CardioConcepts for 3 years.

Katy Mullin

Katy Mullin serves as an editor for CardioVillage. She received her Master's degree in English from Northwestern University and brings more than 12 years of writing, editing, and teaching experience to the CardioConcepts team.

Oksana Shakula

Oksana Shakula received her Master of Computer Science from the University of British Columbia, Canada. She has an extensive background in development, integration, and support of web and database applications. In her role as a web developer, Oksana is responsible for new development, programming upgrades, and modifications in CardioConcepts technology.

Eric Chang

Eric Chang has worked with multimedia medical education since graduating from the University of Virginia in 1992. He specializes in object-oriented educational multimedia and served as Chief Production Assistant for Cases in Cardiology. Eric is the acting webmaster for the CardioVillage and has managed the production and implementation of the CardioVillage since its inception.
